Welcome

We (meaning I) always dreamed of having a blog, writing a piece that would be woven from our farm, a piece that was so intricate it made you feel like you were sitting at window peering into the farm and maybe even you would feel like a part of the family. And now is the time, the time to write it down, document this history going on around us and how it is effecting us and the farm. So welcome to our farm life, like anyone that knows our farm, you pry won’t always beautifully written here— what you will get is a glimpse of our beautiful chaos— and we hope you enjoy it.

I have always had a love for writing. My high school English teacher (shout out Mrs. Mahon) had fostered my love of writing even more when she asked me to be a part of a journalism type class. Little did she know that her confidence in me would really spark something inside my soul. And now I am glad to share it with you, even just a little, through this farm and website.

Life has been a little weird lately, don’t ya think?

Life seems to be going a little off kilter. A little unbalanced. State wide shut downs, schools being closed for weeks on end, people not working, grocery stores being emptied, the list could go on a on. It’s a time in life where we are forced to slow down, “tighten our belts” (as my grandpa and dad would say) and stay home. It’s a time in life that just feels a bit weird.

But in the sunken down valley that we call a farm (and by farm I mean a barn with animals, we aren’t the real farmers who are keeping this world turning right now) the world keeps spinning. It gives us hope. It gives us a sense of normalcy that I am thankful for it in this “weird” time.

We have babies that will be born soon. And with those babies comes the checking on the mommas, the list making to be sure we are ready for new little legs on the farm, the extra care and love for those mommas to be sure they know even in labor, they can trust us.

We have animals that need tended to. Hooves need trimmed, animals need walked, eggs need collected. The pastures are still dormant still so everyone relies on us to feed. To them there is no global health pandemic and for that I am thankful!

I am thankful we have a little piece of normal right outside our doors. A piece of ground that gives us a schedule and tasks and invites us to take care of them. For those going through this without a small sliver of normal, please know it will pass. We will be back to a balanced life, a life full of rushing around, full of handshakes and hugs and life full of your “normal” soon. Until than, hang on to this weird time, maybe create a new normal? (like checking our website for new blogs!) Embrace the time to slow down and know we will get through this together!

Thanks for reading and hopefully, sometime sooner rather than later, we will be welcoming you (in person) to the farm!
